KAAN Architecten has moved to a new office for the expansion of architectural practice. The new location is in the heart of Rotterdam, located along the Maas River, just a few meters from the famous Erasmus Bridge. The project transformed 1,400 sq.m. the former premises of the Dutch bank in the new open space – the headquarters of the Kaan, which covers more than 80 workspaces.
The striking character of the building with its breadth and richness of natural light creates a perfect base for KAAN Architecten, it was there to develop its new office. The beating heart of the project is an extensive work area, dedicated to architects. The rectangular floor plan, with its clear proportions, designed to efficiently connect the working space, a place for meetings and relaxation in a few long monumental corridors and passageways, improving the flow of communication between employees, visitors and partners.
The notion of sharing of knowledge is at the core of the division of spaces and the interior design of the new office. This rough space has the special gift of an industrial yet monumental aesthetic, a beauty that we decided to exalt through a solid balance between two simple materials wood and concrete.

The spatial rhythm is generated due to the industrial structure of the concrete. Coarse materials are balanced with elegant dark walnut wood, which is a main component of the interior. The harmonious interaction between the warm comfort of wood and the existing concrete structure. KAAN Architecten have successfully developed a new workspace that really conveys the philosophy of the office: functionalism and dignity.
