Location: Madrid, Spain
Project Year: 2016
Located inside the symbolic tower of Madrid, the Spanish designer Jaime Hayon overhauled ‘Torre Madrid Hotel “. Completed modern hotel design have nine floors and includes the history and culture of Spain and at the same time, a pair of past influences with an elegant design that combines traditional grandeur and modern approach.
A huge sculpture of a bear painted in zebra with a large brass cylinder meeting guests in the lobby. This is a humorous nod to the arms coat of the Madrid city. Rich colors, like jewel tones and finishes reminiscent of Arabian and Moorish influences which are repeated elements through the whole Spain. These details are supplemented by the Roman arches and selected furniture, including the own design cooperation with &tradition, Cassina and Gubi.
I was fully dedicated to the creation of a very special and unique space that would represent a new vision of Spain, a vision far from the traditional aesthetic, aside from being my hometown, for me Madrid represents Spain’s diversity and richness.
— shares Jaime Hayon.
It is no wonder that guests and residents of the city approvingly accepted an elegant window-walled bar which boasts “probably the highest cabinet drinks in town” — as its task to be seen. The white and gold glazed ceramic sculptures that hang like giant headstones over the white marble bar top and teal fabric bar stools give a festive mood.
The hotel itself is located inside the tower, which was built in 1957. Throughout the hotel there are small sculptures, masks, several characters from the vivid Hayon’s imagination, which populate public spaces and halls. For this project he has chosen a lot of own design furniture from the past cooperation with European brands.
The hotel is decorated in a palette of colors, which is intended to reflect the richness and warmth of Spain.
