Simon Legald is the author of these lightweight aluminum shelves in their industrial style, well it may seem like one of the parts of the aircraft. In his design, Legald experimented with different types of surfaces, sizes and textures, offering an asymmetric relationship, in terms of measures, including horizontal and vertical surfaces.
The shelf manufactured by Normann Copenhagen is made by extruded aluminum. With this method, molten aluminum is pre-paced with a specially designed profile to create a shelf that has a thickness of only 4 mm. The profile has small cuts that produce a rippled surface. These slots also ensure that the items on the shelf do not slip.
Jet is available in different sizes: 80 and 160 cm, and in four colors: white, black, silver and champagne. The last two have a metallic luster, which comes from an anodized surface. This procedure protects aluminum, and also creates a slightly bright decorative effect.
Shelves are easily mounted on the wall with accessories that are available as standard.
Simon Legald (1986) graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in the summer of 2012. His projects (furniture, lighting, accessories) are often the result of a dialogue between craft and industry.
Honesty is what makes the product understandable, describing its functionality. If you understand, the product does not need an explanation. This is the essence of my design searches that can be acquired and used. Therefore, it must satisfy not only functional aspects, but also psychological and aesthetic needs.
For me, simplicity describes the true identity of objects and makes them reliable. In my design I try not to add unnecessary details. Work with simplicity, highlighting needs, not hiding them. This gives the product a simple and honest look.
